The Discovery Center Transition Kids
Two and a half year old children are welcomed into our Transition Group. We offer a child-centered curriculum, having reasonable developmental expectations, respectful of each child's individual needs. We work with the children and families on potty training procedures, as needed.
Children between the ages of 2 1/2 to about 3 are often not quite ready to join the preschool program. It's normal that two and a half year olds need a little more direction and personal attention than a three year old. As a result, we have a small group of five or six children directed by one teacher who stays with them through most of the day. This group uses the facility with the preschool children, but stays together as a group. Many of the activities available to the older children are also available to this younger group, but sometimes simplified to the abilities of the children. With the low teacher-child ratio, the teacher is able to spend more time with each child and give him/her the help they need to learn to fit in with the larger group.
Our day includes music, stories, inside and outside play, individual and small group hands/on activities. We believe in Fun and Active Exploration!!
Daily Schedule: Transition Kids
Hours of Operation: 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Our day at The Discovery Center allows for lots of time for the children to pursue their own interests.
| 7:30 am | We start the day with breakfast and play time in either the Brown Room or Blue Room. |
| 9:00 - 9:15 am | Story time. |
| 9:15 am - 10:00 am | Montessori/science/art activity (alternating weeks) |
| 10:00 - 10:15 am | Snack |
| 10:15 - 11:00 am | Brown Room and Playground activities |
| 11:00 - 11:20 am | Music |
| 11:20 - 12:00 pm | Lunch |
| 12:00 - 2:30 pm | Nap |
| 2:30 am - 3:15 pm | Large muscle play |
| 2:30 am - 3:15 pm | Montessori/science/art activity (alternating weeks) |
| 4:00 or 5:00 pm | Outside playground closes, depending on the weather |
| 5:30 pm | The Discovery Center Closes |
Growing Up...
When the child is considered by the teacher to have developed enough self-direction and basic skills, is mostly toilet trained and feels comfortable with the larger group a conference will be held with the parents and the child will join the preschool program.
